Cultural Identity Workshops

I have been able to present about Cultural Identity alongside my colleagues at cultural and student life at Northeastern University.

The first workshop was titled “Social Identities: Awareness and Self”. The outcome of the workshop was for students to identify and reflect on social identities. Social identities are socially constructed “groupings” of people such as religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and age.

Participants also engaged in a social identities activity. We had different identities taped around the room and asked prompts. For example, “which social identity do you feel you connect more with?” Or, “which social identity do you feel more with family than in the outside world? ” After each prompt, participants were invited to reflect and share their experiences.

The second workshop is still in development, and is titled “Social Identities: Application & dialogue”.

Both presentations are property of the Cultural Life Education committee at Northeastern University, spearheaded by my fantastic colleagues at the Center for Intercultural Engagement.
